Taylor Leath was named to a USA Volleyball youth training team.
June 13, 2012 – Congratulations to 17 Orange’s Taylor Leath who was selected to play with USA Volleyball’s Girls’ Youth National A2 Volleyball program.
Leath was selected as one of 12 outside hitters on the 33 player roster, which also includes six liberos, nine middle blockers and six setters. The girls, from 19 different regions, earned their spots on the team through participation at a USA Volleyball Girls’ Indoor High Performance tryout. Leath took part in the Baltimore tryout prior to competing in the Northeast Qualifier this spring.
Selection to the program is a huge honor, placing Leath among the top 58 volleyball players in her age group in the country. The A2 program serves as a training program for USA Volleyball national teams, and athletes from the A2 Team often will earn spots on the National Team in subsequent years.
In early July, Leath will compete with Synergy’s 17 Orange team in the USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships in Columbus, Ohio. After Nationals, Leath will join her USAV teammates at a five-day USAV High Performance training camp in Des Moines, Iowa beginning July 19. After the five days of training, the players will be divided into three teams of 11 members for the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships July 24-28 at the Iowa Events Center, one of USA Volleyball’s flagship events. The A2 teams will compete against international teams, Region High Performance teams and other USA Volleyball High Performance teams.
The team will be led by Shelton Collier, head coach of Wingate University, who has served as the head coach of several U.S. Girls’ Youth National Volleyball Teams, as well as the Youth and Junior A2 National Volleyball Teams in 2002.
